Pets Can Improve Your Health

Pets Can Improve Your Health

Did you know that more than 60% of households have a pet – cats and dogs being the most popular – and that the average lifetime cost of owning a dog today stands at around A16,900 and for a cat A17,200?

It’s clear to see that these beloved animals have us firmly wrapped around their furry paws; but is it just a one way street? Do we get something from them in return? Apart from the obvious love, companionship and friendship there are other less obvious benefits that can affect our health.

We have seen many cases where pets have healed people physically, emotionally and mentally. But recently doctors have discovered the amazing fact that cats and dogs can help us not only fight disease but also with the way we cope with chronic conditions. Scientific studies have in fact confirmed what we have felt – our pets have a positive impact on our health.

Let’s see what research has discovered.

1. Far from causing a problem, pets can actually lessen the risk of allergiesand asthma. New studies have actually shown that babies and children, who are raised with a furry friend, will be at less risk of asthma and allergies. Researchers have analyzed blood samples from babies immediately after they have been born and again one year late. They were searching for evidence of immunity changes, reactions to bacteria in the environment and general allergic reaction. The results showed that if a dog lived in the house then the child was less likely to show any evidence of pet allergies. It was also found that they also were less likely to have eczema; add to that the fact that they had much higher levels of some immune system chemicals- which is a sign of stronger immune system.

2. We have seen so many times that pets help to reduce stress that it’s easy to accept this fact even without scientific evidence. However a survey carried out by Mindlab International discovered that a huge 55% of people that they studies were more relaxed after they had spent time with their pets and 44% appeared to be less worried about a specific, identifiable problem. The research team concluded that if we interact with a pet it can profoundly and effectively reduce our stress levels.

3. It’s a fact – cats can actually lower the risk of having a fatal heart attack. Researchers have studied nearly 4,500 adults and discovered that those who owned a cat had a 40% lower risk of having a heart attack that proved fatal. The researchers considered that owning a cat could lower anxiety and stress and so guard against cardiovascular disease – the simple action of stroking your feline friend can actually lower your blood pressure.

4. Dog owners tend to have lower blood pressure and cholesterol according to a psychologist from Queen’s University, Belfast. She explained that taking regular walks would partly explain the reason why. You see, just the simple action of taking care of a dog tends to increase physical activity and helps the owner to make social contact with other dog owners. This could improve both physiological and psychological health in the owner.

5. Many doctors now recommend ‘pet prescriptions’ to patients who live alone and who would benefit from companionship. They feel that a pet motivates some patients to exert their best effort when dealing with serious conditions like cancer. Looking after a pet will stimulate them to take good care of themselves too.…

Dog’s Need Gifts Too

Dogs, like people, enjoy a gift every now and then. Purchasing something that your companion loves and benefits from is a great feeling. As with purchasing any gift, it is important to remember the likes and dislikes, the personality, and the needs of the four-legged recipient. It is also important to do a little research to ensure you purchase something worthwhile rather than junk.

We?ve put together a list of a few gifts that your dog might like this holiday season, or anytime praise is warranted.

Doggie Beds

Like people, sleep is an important part of a dog?s life. Providing a comfortable place for him or her to sleep will not only make the dog happier but will also reduce the chances of your pet getting spine, joint and muscle problems.

To choose the right bed, watch how your dog sleeps and, along with assessing the size of your dog, try to find a bed that will compliment their habits. Dogs that sleep curled up may best appreciate a donut dog bed while active or younger dogs may be better off with a chew-proof bed. Orthopedic beds are available for older dogs that may have arthritis or incontinence.

Doggie Bowls

Dogs eat healthier when they have a food and water bowl that fits their size or breed. Large dog need elevated dog bowls so that they do not have to strain their neck to get at its food. Smaller bowls are better suited for little dogs so that they aren?t forced to step into the bowl to get at a piece of kibble. Smaller bowls also keep the dog from overeating and getting sick. Newer dog bowls are now designed with dividers inside to help control overeating or fast-eating by dogs that are prone to dog bloat or are overweight.

Doggie Toys

Just like with people, doggie toys are meant to make them happy. They give your puppy entertainment, help deflect chewing, provide exercise and can be used as a reward for your dog in place of treats. To choose a good dog toy for your pet, find one that is made specifically for dogs; giving a dog a child?s toy can introduce them to harmful fibers or Styrofoam inside when they chew on it. Also, make sure the toy is large enough so that the dog won?t choke on it and tough enough for whatever extent of chewing your dog may do. Toys that can be filled with treats are very popular. However, make sure to only use such a toy for dogs that are not overweight.

Dog Grooming

Grooming is sometimes difficult. Cleaning, brushing and clipping your dog while also trying to keep them calm can be a challenge for any dog owner. However, sometimes a good set of grooming tools can make the job much easier. Look into a good dog brush that thoroughly brushes as well as trims out excess hair. This will help you get to tasks done at once. If you don?t feel up to grooming your pet yourself, there are hundreds of dog groomers who would love to pamper your pooch for an afternoon.

Caring for your dog?s teeth has become increasingly important. Veterinarians highly recommend that dog owners invest in a good toothbrush for their pet. Dog owners can also buy oral hygiene dog food to help in this area as well.

Everyone loves buying gifts for their friends. Take the time to buy something special for that companion that greets you at the door every evening, curls up with you while you watch TV and provides you countless hours of love and companionship.…

Cat Information You Will Not Find Elsewhere

If you’re a cat owner or you want to get a cat in the near future, you’re probably wondering how you can care for it properly. Cats make great pets but they can take a little work to take care of. Read through this article for some solid advice, and this will be something you can do.

Be sure to have your pet cat spayed or neutered by the time it is six months old. A spayed or neutered cat is a more satisfactory pet because it is calmer, quieter and more likely to stay home. Neutered male cats do not spray urine to mark their territory. This is definitely a plus when it comes to cat ownership.

Avoid being kept awake by your cat romping through the house at night. When you first get your kitten, establish a habit of putting it to bed in a comfortable crate with a nice bed, litter box, food and water at night. If you start this early, your cat will appreciate having its own safe, cozy room.

Cats are constantly grooming themselves, and this is why they rarely need a bath. If your cat gets into something particularly stinky, a bath will not hurt them. If your cat does not like water you might want to wear gloves so that you do not get scratched. You might also want to enlist the help of a friend or family member.

Cats and electrical cords don’t mix. If you notice your cat has a habit of chewing on electric cords, try to bundle them up and hide them out of the cat’s reach. If that’s not possible, spray a little bit of bitter apple onto the cords. Not only is bitter apple non-toxic, cats absolutely hate the taste.

Do not assume that because a medication is okay for you to take, that it is safe for your cat as well. Many medications made for humans are lethal to cats, such as acetaminophen containing drugs and aspirin. Always check with your veterinarian before you give your cat anything.

Make sure your cat is not too bored. Cats need stimulation. Sadly, this is overlooked by many cat owners. Bored cats are more prone to depression, obsessive compulsive disorders, as well as many other behavioral issues. Therefore, ensure your cat has enough space for exercising and playing. An indoor cat needs a good scratching post.

Cats can tend to be more nocturnal than not. This refers to the fact that they are usually more active at night. If your cats keep you up at night, kick them out of the bedroom. You won’t be able to hear their sounds as they walk around in the middle of the night.

Pet

When looking for a new cat for your home, contact a local animal shelter. Shelters usually have many cats who need a home, and the fees typically include their shots and spaying or neutering. Adopting your cat at a shelter allows you to save a cat’s life while also helping mitigate overpopulation.

Do not use medicine meant for a dog on a cat. This is especially important for topical medicines. Cats do their own cleaning, and if a dog medicine is used on a cat, your pet can ingest it. There are some medicines that work for both cats and dogs, but only use them if the vet says it is okay.

Your kitty’s litter box should be strategically placed. Many cat owners feel inclined to hide the litter box. Make sure your cat can easily reach the litter box at all times. It helps to make life easy for the cat, as they can be quite picky about things. A litter box located in the basement should be placed on a thick mat or rug.

Pet Adoption

If you are looking for a new home for your kitty, consider registering with an online pet adoption agency. Some of these companies screen applicants, so you will be sure that your pet is going into a good home. This is better than selling him to a creep who lurks around Craigslist all the time.

As you can see now, it’s not terribly difficult to care for a cat. You just have to be patient and everything will fall into place for you. Take the things that you have learned here and you’ll be well equipped to deal with cats. Enjoy your feline friends and good luck!…

Regarding Dog Ownership, We Have The Goods

Dogs are among the very best pets around. They can give you love and happiness. The more you know about caring for dogs, the better. To become a truly responsible master to your dog, take a look at the savvy advice presented below.

Keep on top of fleas. Not only can fleas cause infection in your dog, if one is swallowed, your pet can get tapeworms as well. Speak to your veterinarian about the best prevention method, but remember that this is not a one shot deal. You will have to continue your efforts over the life of your pet.

Refrain from making the training sessions with your dogs too long. Extended sessions can make a dog tire out and become bored easily when you are trying to teach them new things. Limit your training sessions to 20-30 minutes, as this will help to keep the full attention of your dog.

Take your dog to the vet regularly. This may seem like an added expense that you don’t need, but when you take your dog to the veterinarian, he can screen your dog for diseases and make sure he is in the best of health. This of course prevents problems down the road.

Try to always be aware of how your dog is feeling. If your dog seems to be nervous, fearful, or scared of certain things, you should take note of this and try to avoid putting your dog in a stressful situation. When a dog is stressed or afraid, you could traumatize your dog if you insist that it stays in the stressful situation.

Pet-proof your home before bringing a dog into it, just as you would for a crawling toddler. You need to move anything toxic to a higher shelf and consider the danger that plants may pose if nibbled by your dog. Remember that anti-freeze is deadly and that leaving things like pennies or crayons on floors can pose a choking hazard to curious pups.

Don’t force your dog to eat something. If you got them a treat and they aren’t interested in it, don’t make them eat it. It will take you a little while to figure out what your dog likes and what he doesn’t, but you’ll get the hang of it.

If training has become routine and boring with your dog, consider introducing agility exercises into the mix. These will still teach your dog to obey and be challenging, but they tend to be a lot more fun than the regular commands. Get the whole family involved by making an obstacle course and working the dog through it frequently.

Make sure to exercise your dog often. Your dog has to be worked out to stay happy and healthy. Your dog will get the exercise it needs (and you’ll be a little more active yourself!) from virtually any kind of outdoor activity you share with it. This will create a great bond with your dog when performing these activities.

If you are considering owning a dog, keep in mind the size of your home when selecting the breed. Large dogs do not mix well with small apartments unless you have the ability to walk them frequently. They need exercise and room to roam. In this situation, a smaller barred might be the better choice.

Have a rotating schedule for dog-related responsibilities in your home. It’s not fair for one person to always be taking care of him, and he’ll feel more like a family pet if everyone pitches in. Kids often lose interest in a pet and leave the work to parents, but it’s important that you teach them to keep up the commitment!

You need to make sure if your female dog is not fixed and is in heat that she doesn’t come into contact with a male dog so she does not get pregnant. Male dogs can pick up the scent of a female dog in full heat up to five miles away. This causes fights as well as sexual behavior.

Nothing can match the unconditional love of a loyal dog. However, if you really want to have a great relationship with your pet, you have to learn what you can about them. Following these tips will start you on your way to becoming an experienced and knowledgeable dog owner. Don’t hesitate to seek out more good advice that will make you an even better owner for your dog.…

Vintage Prom Dresses: Be A Flapper Girl

Vintage Prom Dresses: Be A Flapper Girl

The ideal prom dress is the one that makes us feel totally comfortable in ourselves, and yet takes us from the everyday to the truly special. It therefore needs to have an element of theatricaility to it; a magic, transformative feel. We don’t need to pretend that prom is about being a princess for an evening. Frankly, real life princesses get a pretty raw deal. What you’re interested in being is yourself – nothing but your amazing, real self. To find the perfect piece you need to be in tune with what styles and references speak to your personal tastes, in both a practical and aesthetic sense. This means considering whether you are truly comfortable in heels, or what kind of makeup suits you, or how you might style your hair. All of these things come together with your dress and accessories to create an overall look that should tell people something about who you are, and about the awesome night you want to have!

The 1920s Flapper Dress is an inspired style to consider, because it is both classic, and different enough for you to make a style statement. If you want to stand out from the crowds of floor length satin gowns in hot pink and baby blue, the Flapper is for you. It is sophisticated, luxurious and, most importantly, it is absolutely the best style of dress to dance the night away in. Flapper dresses tend to come in two lengths, the mini and the midi: both are practical and stunning, with the options for detail and embellishment limitless.

You’re likely to have seen your fair share of flapper dresses, so you will be familiar with the kinds of detail they tend to feature. Common designs are tasselled, for a hypnotic sway, or encrusted with shimmering beads and sequins for a stunning effect. Both are gorgeous, but for prom – when you want the best photographs possible of your night – shimmer might be the best way to go. A simple silhouette and enchanting detailed design is truly a winning combination that will look incredible in everyone’s images.

Another advantage of going with such a detailed dress is that you can afford to be simple with the accessories. Sequins and studs mean that jewelry can be kept minimal; you can even go with just a hairband or simple cuff. With shoes both heels and flats work, but don’t go too high if you want to retain some of the authenticity of the 1920s style. At the time most women wore flats or kitten heels, both of which you can easily find in a range of colors and styles; you don’t have to sacrifice style for practicality. Go for a clutch in a complementary shade to your dress. This doesn’t mean matching! For example, a dark blue dress will benefit from a grey, silver or purple clutch. Look at the pieces together and if they seem right, go with your instincts. The most important accessory for a Flapper girl is her dazzling smile!…

Longhaired Bengal Cats Available at F1hybrids

Long haired Bengal cats come in all colors and patterns. Longhair is nonstandard plus it is a recessive gene. Here at F1hybrids cattery our Bengal cat Tum carries for long hair. We found this out after breeding a F3 female that was three generations removed from a Maine coon female.

Long hair is Non standard which means that the trait is not accepted according to the TICA Bengal breed standard. Long hair cats can not be accepted for championship status with TICA. Longhair may not be a recognized colors but a Bengal that is long haired is a purebred Bengal.

Long hair is also referred to as a Cashmere Bengal cat. It’s nothing but a term used to make longhair sound more desirable. Cashmere or long hair Bengal kittens have been produced from short haired parents since the beginning of the Bengal cat breed.

Coats can vary from relatively short with only the tail looking long hair, like Somali or Turkish Angora cat breed or you can get the length of Mane Coon which seems to be more rare. Most Long hair Bengal cats are homozygous for longhair. Studies show that when breeding two homozygous you will get long hair every fourth kitten

As we have found out many long hair kittens are born with shorter hair than most short hair kittens. In our first litter of long hair savannah kitten we originally though we had dark charcoal short hair kitten with white googles.

Well come to find out that the kittens where brown with perfect black horizontal spotting plus black noses. Long hair kittens can appear to be born almost black, like the Somali is about 90% impossible to tell whether your kitten will turn out to be short haired or long haired.

Bengal cats have wild-looking markings, such as large spots, rosettes, and a light/white belly, and a body structure reminiscent of the Asian Leopard Cat Prionailurus bengalensis bengalensis. The Bengal cat has a desirable wild appearance with a gentle domestic cat temperament, provided it is separated by at least three generations from the original crossing between a domestic feline and an ALC.

All Bengals except the Seal Lynx Point Snow must have a black tipped tail and black paw pads. The Seal Lynx Point has a bitter chocolate coloured tail tip and can have a rose tinted nose and paw pads. Marbled kittens start with blackish grey coats with small streaks of lighter coloured fur scattered about their Blue and the Silver both come in Spotted or Marbled patterns, both are incredible in appearance.…

Why It’s Safe to Shop For Shoes Online

Why It’s Safe to Shop For Shoes Online

When it comes to shoe shopping, the thought of trudging through your local shopping centre, trying to find the perfect pair of shoes, can be a little off-putting. So much so in fact, that many people never venture into the hectic world of the shopping mall at all. What the majority of these people have learned is that online shopping is a lot more convenient. Well-informed individuals realise the advantages of shopping online. Yet, there are many people who would never shop online for women’s shoes boots online and there are several reasons why:

Firstly, people are afraid to enter payment details on the internet. These same people never take advantage of online banking either. The reason for this is that they have overestimated the likelihood of falling victim to identity theft or fraud. They cannot be blamed for the fact their fear of crime is greater than the statistical likelihood of falling victim to fraud or theft – this is largely due to media hype and the overzealous advertising of the manufacturers of fraud prevention products, such as anti-virus software.

The chances of falling victim to these crimes is in fact a lot smaller than the media would have you believe, and there are ways in which we can protect ourselves further. Making sure that we only shop for women’s shoes boots with sites that provide secure payment methods – such as PayPal, Google Checkout, SagePay, and RBS WorldPay – means that personal banking details are kept secure using the latest protection afforded by modern technology. The probability of identity theft occurring due to online shopping is less than that of forgetting to shred a utility bill at home. It is a misconception that online shopping will result in theft.

Next, many women will worry about the quality of women’s shoes boots if they are not able to physically inspect the shoe. This is a legitimate fear, but online shoe stores do protect us from such eventualities. For instance, a good shoe store will offer a returns policy, so if upon arrival of your chosen shoes, you find they are not up to standard, you can simply return them. From this angle, to protect yourself when shopping online, make sure that you shop with a store that offers a returns policy. Alternatively, if you have a specific brand of shoe in mind, and you are already familiar with the quality provided by that shoe, then buying that particular brand ensures that the quality of the shoe will be as expected. If you find a pair of shoes online that you really like the look of, but you are not familiar with the brand, you can do a little research about the website to find out what others think. If the site has many positive reviews, then it is a sure sign that they sell decent footwear.…

Many people make mistakes when they think they can’t do anything, and they give up on their cat. There are many things involved with feline hyperthyroid treatment and no matter which you choose, your cat will be with you for another ten years, at least.

1. Procedure – before this feline hyperthyroid treatment starts, it’s important to prepare the patient. That means that he must be on some medications for at least four weeks and adapt the body to the future changes, and reduce other health problems the patient might have. There are two possible procedures – when only one gland must be removed since the other one is not abnormal, and when both glands should be removed.

2. Advantages – this is usually a permanent procedure, meaning that the patient probably will not need any more surgeries in the future. This treatment is affordable, and you will not have to go to another area or town in order to find a good surgeon, so this feline hyperthyroid treatment may be a great solution.

3. Disadvantages – unfortunately, some things will not turn out right, and just like any surgery, this one have risks, as well. First, treating the patient with heart or kidney issues might be a real problem. The procedure must be done very carefully, because if the abnormal tissues or gland is left behind, all the symptoms may come back after a couple of months. Unlike radioactive iodine therapy, this one requires monitoring before and after the surgery, so it may take time, nerves, and money, as well. Other risks of surgery are that low-blood calcium during the surgery; the voice box might be changed accidentally, and there might be some changes in eyelids and pupil size.

This feline hyperthyroid treatment is not very recommendable for every patent. The best solution a sick cat might have is a radioactive iodine treatment that does not take a lot of time, and even though it’s expensive, it is worth the money. Besides, in most of the cases, the procedure must not be done another time since all sick part can be removed easily. The best part is that the patient doesn’t need any kind of treatments after the operation and can get back to normal life easily.…

How to Shop For High Heels That Are Both Comfortable and Fashionable

How to Shop For High Heels That Are Both Comfortable and Fashionable

Some of us refuse to wear any shoe that isn’t a high heel. Yes, we know that wearing heeled shoes isn’t good for our feet, legs, and spine. Yes, we know that we should wear flats and that there are lots of casual shoes on the market that are both comfortable and fashionable, but none of that seems to phase us. We are going to wear our high heels and we don’t care what anyone else has to say about it.

If you are one of the thousand’s of women who refuse to go out in public without a pair of high heels, you should know that it is possible to find a pair of high heels that are comfortable and fashionable.

The next time you go shoe shopping, you need to get it into your head that you aren’t going to fall in love with the first pair of stilettos you see. This time you aren’t going to purchase any pair of heels that aren’t comfortable and fashionable.

Even though flats are always going to be better for your health than heels, if you simply can’t give up your heels, you should at least try to lower the height of your heels. Shoes with kitten heels can be very comfortable and fashionable and they won’t put the strain on your body that higher heels do.

Try to find a pair of heels that you can slip off. Being able to slide your feet out of your heels whenever possible. Taking your shoes off will give your feet a chance to breathe and also take some of the strain off your skeletal system.

Make sure that the high heels you purchase properly fit your feet. Shoes that are to big will slip and rub your skin, and shoes that are two small will pinch and crush your feet.

High heels with a rounded toe are going to be more comfortable than shoes that have pointed toes.

If you are really determined, you will be able to find a pair of high heels that are both comfortable and fashionable. It just might mean that you have to go to several shoe stores first.…

What Every Dog Owner Should Know About Their Pets

It’s natural that you would love having a dog. Dogs have been great pets for thousands of years. It’s always a great idea to get a dog, but you have to remember that you are also taking on some responsibility when you bring a dog into your house. Here are some ways you can handle those responsibilities.

Keep on top of fleas. Not only can fleas cause infection in your dog, if one is swallowed, your pet can get tapeworms as well. Speak to your veterinarian about the best prevention method, but remember that this is not a one shot deal. You will have to continue your efforts over the life of your pet.

When giving your dog a bath, make sure that you only put on shampoo that is intended for canines. Using lukewarm water, get the entire body wet and then begin applying the shampoo to their face, working your way down their body. Wait a few minutes and then take a washcloth and wipe off the suds from your pet’s face. Wash off the rest of the shampoo as well.

When preparing to groom your pet, start the session off on the right foot by helping your dog relax. Spend a few minutes simply petting him, starting with the head and then rubbing the back, paws, belly and even tail. Once you feel your dog is happy and content, begin grooming him.

Ask your vet the amount of food your dog needs daily. Most dog food packages include guidelines but keep in mind that these instructions might not be adapted to your dog. Therefore, ask your vet the acceptable amount of dog food your dog needs to ensure its health and well-being.

If your dog spends time outside, he should have a good house. You can purchase one or build one yourself if you are handy. This is especially important during wet weather. Keep your dog safe from wind, rain and snow by providing it with a house with lots of room and a dry floor.

If you’re trying to break one of your dog’s unwanted habits, make sure that you understand that it will not happen overnight. Breaking a habit takes time and patience. Don’t get discouraged and give up if it seems like your pup isn’t making progress. Keep at it and maybe try changing your approach to the training. Sometimes this can be the boost that your dog needs.

Groom your dog frequently. Keep them clean and reduce the amount of hair they shed by brushing them frequently. When the weather warms up, start checking them for ticks and fleas daily. Dogs generally require a few baths a year. Before you give your dog a bath, make sure to cut or comb out mats and tangles. Rinse their coat thoroughly to avoid dirt sticking to any soap residue.

If you are a very enthusiastic owner of a pure-bred dog, join your local AKC. They are an active social group where you can share your love for your dog, learn a lot and make new friends too. The experience can also help prepare you and your dog for entering contests and winning shows!

Always be sure that your dog understands that you are the master if you want to have a well behaved pet. This is important because if your dog believes that he is dominant over you, then you have a much smaller chance of getting it to obey your commands and behave according to your wishes.

Humane Society

Put your dog through obedience training. A well-trained dog is a joy to live with for both you and them. Teaching them simple commands like “Come,” “Heel,” “Sit,” and “Stay” can help curb or prevent troublesome behaviors in no time. You can either teach them yourself, or you can find out about obedience courses by contacting the SPCA or the local humane society for class recommendations.

Having a dog isn’t all fun and games. You have to give yourself some time to really think about what you’re doing, and to act accordingly. You can use the tips here to help you to know what you need to do. You can always have a happy dog, if you take the time to give it a little thought.…

Just like with any kind of pet, you’ll have a lot of responsibilities and if you do those duties to your pet well, you and your little kitten will be rewarded with many days of happiness and satisfaction. You can treat your cords with products like Bitter Apple but as part of kitten care, you have to teach and discourage your kitten from chewing on them. When a new kitten is coming to your home, you have to forgo decorating with nice curtains for a bit of time. At this stage, you have to teach your kitten that these curtains aren’t meant for scratching or for climbing.

If there are toxic chemicals and other harmful things in your home, you have to be sure that they’re placed in secure places. Maybe you like to use antifreeze or some other chemical for cleaning your toilet. While these may smell sweet, they can be very toxic and your little kitten might be tempted by the sweet scent enough to lick it. It’s essential kitten care to keep these chemicals and toxic plants out of reach either keep them stored in a locked overhead cabinet or keep them outside the house.

Part of kitten care is the cat litter. It’s the most basic necessity if you have a cat. When you get a good quality cat litter, you have to make sure you have a spot picked out for it in your home. It should be a place where it can’t be seen and it has to be a place where it can’t be smelled. Together with your litter box, you also need a litter scoop. If you live in a small space, you can buy a litter box that comes with an odor filter. They’re available in a variety of designs that can blend well with your home d?cor.…

Caring for a Cat is a Serious Responsibility and Should Not Be Taken Lightly

Caring for a Cat is a Serious Responsibility and Should Not Be Taken Lightly

When you’re caring for a cat, do your research before the cat comes so that it’s an easy transition for the both of you. Although caring for a cat is not as high maintenance (or people say) as dogs, they’re going to still need for you to do something (feed, lodge, provide health care, train and pay attention).

Feeding kittens

When it comes to feeding kittens, they should NOT be taken away from their mother’s until they are seven to eight weeks of age.

If the kitten was without a mother, and is less than six weeks old, consult a veterinarian about feeding.

When they’re kittens their calorie level is much higher because of the higher energy level.

What kind of food should you feed them

Canned food should be the preference for kittens less than six months old. Remove any excess food after ten them 3-4 times a day, anymore can result in diarrhea or vomiting.

Around six to eight months you can scale back the feedings to 2x a day.

Keep dry kitten food and plenty of clean, fresh water available continually.

Age 1

Slowly change the dry kitten food to adult formula.

Mix in 1/4 of adult food with 3/4 kitten food. Then over a five to ten day period switch over completely.

DO NOT buy generic cat food and be careful about leaving dog food where the cat can eat it (cats need more protein and amino acids than dog food provides) and same for dogs.

Cats love variety so switch up their food. Studies show cats do better on canned food. Feed your cat mostly canned food and a little dry food which will keep your cat from gaining weight and allow it to stay more active.

Feed moist food at room temperature and store uneaten food in a glass container in the refrigerator.

Avoid giving them scraps, avoid uncooked food and never give them cat bones.

Avoid giving them milk as it can cause diarrhea or vomiting.

Health care

Vet visits are important and as soon as you take possession of the cat schedule a visit. The vet will explain to you all of the necessary steps you should take to care for it.

Take a fresh stool sample to your cat’s vet at the time of your first visit. This allows it to be tested for parasites, then they can be treated if needed.

Avoid over the counter medicines.

Neutering

What is it?

It’s a surgery performed by your vet so that your cat will not breed or have kittens(littering the streets with kittens that can’t be cared for).

Spaying is done on females.

ID Tags

Cats should have these and it should include your name, address and phone number.

Special safety collars for cats are recommended.

These collars have a short piece of elastic that stretches so they can free themselves from the collar if accidentally caught avoiding risk of injury.

A microchip is another ID option which is harmless and inserted under the skin in the shoulder area.

How to handle and train your cat

Handle your cat with care, when they’re eating, sleeping and using the litter box, they should be left alone during these times.

Hold your cat by putting one hand under the front of the body (chest) and the other under their back legs and holding them close to you.

This should help you with your efforts of caring for a cat.…

Lion The King of the Cats

If there is any animal that has caught the imagination of millions across the globe, then it will be the lion, the king of the cats. Striding majestically across the African grassland with a mane showing off all its raw strength and unchallenged power, the lion is truly the king. One of the four largest animals in the cat genus, the lion (Panthera leo) is second only to the tiger in terms of size. Found mainly in the sub-Saharan parts of Africa and Asia (especially the Indian subcontinent where it is limited to the famed Gir Forest National Park). In the times past, its range was larger than this but has shrunken over time due principally to human activities.

The typical lion lives for a decade or more on the average but records indicate that those that have been captured from their natural habitat and kept in zoos or other forms of captivity actually lived longer. One very interesting feature with the lion is that unlike many of the other cats, it is actually a very gregarious animal found in groups called prides.

In the pride of lions, it is quite normal for one to notice more females (lionesses) than the number of males. It is also usual for one to notice that hunting is predominantly done by teams of female lions who can be spectacularly aggressive and protective of the young ones (cubs). In their natural habitat of savannas and grasslands, lions normally prey on large, hoofed animals such as the buffalo and wildebeest which interesting can be several times larger than the lion themselves. In some other instances, lions have also been known to pick on giraffes, zebras, ostriches, antelopes and even hippopotamuses or elephants in very audacious moves which may sometimes spell disaster for the lion or both parties.

One very peculiar feature with the lions is that they mainly sleep and relax throughout the day and become very active at night. In other words, the predatory nature of lions is described as nocturnal. However, there are some other times when lions are much more active during the day as against the night. This variation is described as diurnal i.e. active during the day.

The mane is the most definitive feature of the lion. It is the bushy growth of hair around the neck which grows larger during threat displays and territoriality. The mane make the lion look bigger and even more threatening than usual. The color of the mane is also used in determining the health status of the lion, the darker and fuller the mane, the healthier the lion. A diseased lion can be spotted by taking a closer look at the mane of the appearance.

In Africa where the lions are predominantly located, the spotted hyena is the main animal hunted down by these carnivorous cats. When going for hunts, lions form a pack and attack in groups so that the chances of an escape of the prey is considerably reduced. But it is quite interesting to know that lions can only enjoy short bursts of high speed and get tired easily.…

Ways to Prevent Feline Leukemia

When a cat has Feline Leukemia, his immune system will be compromised. Apart from this, he also develops anemia and the growth of abnormal tumors. He develops other diseases such as cancer. He will most likely live around 3.5 more years, as a majority of FeLV-infected cats do.

If you are a cat care giver, it is essential for you to know how you can prevent the spread of the disease among cats in your foster cat home. Knowledge and understanding of the disease, as well as other contagious diseases, can certainly be a big factor in lengthening the lives of cats.

Licking is one of the common forms of transmission as FeLV can be acquired through licking. Moreover, placenta-transmission (i.e. mother to baby) is also another common form. Kittens are more vulnerable to the condition because their immune system are still weak until they reach 4 months old, thus resistance to the disease is also not that strong.

The sad truth is that it takes awhile for symptoms to become evident. In fact, it could take months, or even years, before the symptoms show. Unless you get your cat tested, it is unlikely that you will find out if he has FeLV during the first few months that he has it.

How can you keep your cats safe from this rather deadly disease? Below are some of the things that you can do. Actually, these are what you SHOULD do, if you want to keep your cats free from FeLV, and this is particularly important if you have a foster cat home.

Liver Problems In Canines

Just like human beings, dogs also can have liver problems. Their livers can be damaged by toxins, chemicals and other waste products.

The liver plays an important role in the dog’s body and you, as its owner, you must find ways to protect it. Liver diseases can affect any dog, no matter if it is small or big, young or old. There are many reasons why liver diseases happen and most of the times the liver does not regenerate itself.

Popular causes for liver diseases in dogs

Some of the most common diseases in the liver appear due to heart or some circulatory problems that affect the flow of the blood. Some metabolic diseases such as Cushing’s disease, diabetes, pancreatitis, or hypothyroidism can cause liver damage. Also, the toxins in many commercial foods contain additives, many preservatives, or prescribed medications. Some viral, bacterial and fungal infections can cause liver damage. Other causes include trauma, malnutrition and environmental stresses.

Symptoms

Many of the symptoms are not predictable but here are the most common one that can raise suspicion:

– The dog looses the appetite and he also looses weight

– He had diarrhea, the vomits and has constipation

– The feces are gray

– The belly gets swollen because the abdomen is accumulating fluids

– The dog is lethargic or is depressed

– It tends to drink a lot of water

– Changes in behaviour

– Blood in the stool and urine

Treatment

A thorough physical examination is a must and this includes testing the urine and the blood. X-rays, ultrasound tests, and liver biopsy are also among the tests.

Dietary Changes

The dog has to have a changed diet that contains vitamins, proteins, minerals, digestible carbohydrates and a lot of healthy things that do not stress the liver cells. Vitamin K and also vitamin E are very important.

Herbal Medications: can stimulate the good functioning of the liver Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) is used to clean the toxins.

Milk Thistle Seeds (Silybum marianum/Carduus marianusare also a natural treatment and also the Greenleaf Tablets that will detoxify the body.

Medication

Medication therapy is recommended in many cases. Usually the vets prescribe corticosteroids to increase the appetite of the dog and also reduce the inflammation. Colchicine, is also given to dogs that have fibrosis (cirrhosis) in the liver. Glucocorticoids (prednisone) and azathioprine are also prescribed. So take care of your dog and always listen to the vet…

The Proper Techniques For Hound Training

Hound training will be differentiated based on what you intend to do with your new arrival, but there are a basic few principals which must always remain the same. Physical punishments are never a good way to go, and these should be avoided when training any puppy or dog. Instilling fear, confusion, and mistrust by lashing out at your helpless animal isn’t good for either of you, so if you find that you are not patient or calm enough to take on the responsibility of properly and safely raising a secure, well behaved, and happy dog who is eager and willing to please you, you may want to consider handing him over to someone more qualified before permanent damage is done to the dog. That said, we can begin to walk through a few steps that are common in hound training.
If your hounds are to be home and family dogs, this is fine, but you must understand the pure and strong instincts that will pull at him when neither of you expect it. He must never be punished or faulted for chasing small game or for setting out on a hot trail. This is his job, predetermined by hundreds of years worth of sound breeding, and no amount of couch potato domestication will change this. What you can do is to give him plenty of stimulation along the lines of chase games and interesting toys during and after hound training, and be sure that he has a completely secure yard to play in before you even consider bringing him home. It will be your job to keep him safe; remembering that a hunting hound dog set loose in the city could end up in a very tragic situation.
Hound training will also involve a very clean and clear outlining of and adhering to the rules of roost, which you control at all times with no exceptions. There should be one precise word for each command, place, or object that you want him to learn, and you should use these words often, but only when they pertain to what you wish him to do. A dog’s life can be utterly confusing, especially when all he wants to do is to please you. Make it easy on both of you, and start teaching him your key words right away. Getting off of furniture should be met with “off”, laying down should be “down”, going outside shout be “out” or “outside”, but be sure to pick just one and stick with it. This word association when learned early can mean the difference between a safe, healthy, and happy hound dog or a confused, depressed, nervous wreck of a hound who has given up trying to do the right thing.…

Have A Bouncing Happy Dog With This Advice.

When you adopt a dog, you never know what you’re going to get. Like a box of chocolates, every single dog is different. That said, there are a few things they have in common, such as unconditional love. To make your dog the best he can be, you have to be the best owner, so read the advice below.

You must dog-proof your residence. Make sure any area your dog will be in is safe. Put all medication and cleaning supplies away, and keep your indoor trash can inside a cabinet. Certain common house plants are toxic, so remove them or keep them out of reach.

Avoid insisting that your dog socialize nicely with every other passing dog. Experts recommend that your dog be able to tolerate introductions through sniffing and eying with another animal, but say forcing the issue can create problems. Accept your dog’s lead when meeting and greeting other animals and allow for natural interaction.

Never bring your dog with you while flying during the hot summer months, unless the airline provides a climate-controlled cabin for him. Most of the major carriers use the same area for pets as they do for cargo, meaning your dog will have to endure some pretty high temperatures as you travel to your destination, jeopardizing his safety.

Before deciding on what type of dog to get for your family, consider space. Even though you may love the bigger dogs that you can really wrap your arms around, you may not have adequate space for a large breed. Take your home and yard size into consideration before bringing home a new pooch.

If your dog has long hair, make sure to take the time to trim the fur around his feet. If you allow your dog’s hair to grow too long, they can get things stuck in their fur. This could lead to injuries between the pads of the feet and around the nails.

If you decide to adopt a dog from a shelter, you should schedule an appointment with a veterinarian right away. Shelter dogs have numerous opportunities to be exposed to harmful bacteria and viruses; these can result in dangerous illnesses. Your puppy needs to get a few shots before you can safely bring it home.

No matter what kind of dog you may have, hang up a few “Beware of Dog” signs on your property. They are known deterrents to would-be burglars and can help protect you and your family. Just the sign alone indicates probable failure of any robbery attempt and a single bark will have them running away!

If your dog seems lonely because you’re not home all the time, get him a little friend. Dogs are naturally pack animals, and they like to be around other dogs. Match them carefully based on energy levels and temperament.

Never leave your dog home alone for more than a few hours each day. For example, if you are planning on being away from home for a few days, you should find a place to house them where they can get regular care. Dogs can become anxious when left alone for extended times, so consider their feelings and provide them with the care that they need.

Do you have a hard time keeping your dog from barking? You might be encouraging this behavior without even realizing it. Your dog will keep barking if you acknowledge this behavior. It is best to ignore your dog until it stops barking, even if your dog wants to come inside.

When you want a dog who loves you as much as you love him, you have to treat him the right way. Once you know what it takes to achieve this high level of care, you’re ready to go. Reading this article was step one, so move on to step two: starting using the advice!…

How To Get Rid Of Dog Urine Smell

For years it has been very hard to get the smell of dog pee out of carpet. You may have a new puppy and he is not potty trained yet. People have tried so many different remedies, but none of them have really truly worked. Usually these remedies include ammonia, which is one of the main ingredients in pee. Don?t worry though, I have found a home remedy that is easy and inexpensive and which you can make with just a few cleaning supplies lying around your house.

The first step in cleaning the puppy pee is this: If the area is still wet you need to try to absorb most of it with a paper towel and your foot. Stamp on the paper towel to absorb as much of the pee as you can in the towel.

This step is very important as it helps stop the pee from going clear down to the bottom of your carpet, where it would be almost impossible to get up.

If you leave the pee to dry it will only encourage bacterial growth. But in most situations the dog pee has already dried because you did not notice it when it happened. It is easy to find dried pee on the carpet using a black light. You can find them in most well equipped hardware stores.

What you will need to start with is baking soda, white vinegar, dishwashing detergent, and 3% Hydrogen Peroxide. The mixture should be made up of 50% white vinegar, and 50% water.

You need to use a decent amount of this mixture to make sure you get deep down in the carpet. Scrub the solution with a scrubbing brush to ensure that it penetrates the carpet. Again you will absorb some of the mixture with a clean paper towel. Absorbing the mixture with a clean paper towel helps the vinegar and water to dry faster. So you can move onto the next step. The vinegar will neutralize the smell of the ammonia. Leave the area to dry for 12 hours. You can help speed up the process by using a fan or a blow dryer.

After the area has dried up you must sprinkle a good portion of baking powder on the soiled area. For a better smell feel free to use the multipurpose cat baking powder. It smells at lot better and leaves smells nowhere to be found.

Now, you should mix ? cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide with a teaspoon of dish detergent. Poor this mixture over the baking powder. Scrub the dissolving baking powder into the carpet. It is important to first work it in with your fingers and then you can go ahead and scrub it with the scrub brush. Make sure you get every single spot around the area that is soiled. You don?t want to miss a spot or the puppy will go and pee on the spot again.

Finally after finishing this task you must let the area dry up again. Once the area is completely dry you may vacuum the spot to pick up any leftover baking soda powder. If the area is seriously soiled with dog pee you may need to repeat the process again. You don?t want to take the chance of the dog using that spot to go to the bathroom again.

Remember it is very important that you never use ammonia or ammonia based products when cleaning up dog or puppy pee. One of the ingredients of pee is ammonia. It is most likely if you clean the pee with ammonia based products the puppy or the dog may be tempted to pee in that spot again. Don?t worry if your carpet has suffered a few puddles from the new puppy you just got. It is really easy to get rid of the soiled spots.…

5 Most Frequently Asked Questions About Maine Coon Cats

Maine Coon cats are one of the oldest and largest breeds in North America. With stories and myths about its origins and other characteristics, you may have read things about this breed that are untrue. Here are five questions frequently asked about this domestic cat.

1. How big can they get? Maine Coons generally weigh between 9 to 18 pounds. The adult female weighs between 9 and 12 pounds, while the male typically weighs between 13 to 18 pounds. They are not fully mature until 3 to 5 years of age. When you consider another 2 to 3 inches of their long coats, it’s not a surprise they look even bigger.

2. How much grooming do they need? With their bushy tail and long hair hind-quarters you might think they’d need a lot of grooming. Their coat naturally falls smoothly, and they do not need much grooming from their owners. A weekly grooming will keep their coats in healthy condition.

3. Do they have six toes? History shows that original Coon cats may have had extra toes (a trait called polydactyls meaning extra fingers or toes). Some think that this may have been a dominant in this breed to help them adapt to harsh weather conditions. This trait had almost vanished in Coons, as cat shows automatically disqualify any cats with this characteristic. Generally, these cats are not polydactyls.

4. Aren’t they all brown in color? Many people think that Maine Coons are only brown; however, this couldn’t be further from the truth. They come in a wide combination of colors and patterns. The only exception is they don’t come pointed, like the Siamese.

5. How can I tell if my cat is a Maine Coon? Your cat may have similar characteristics to the Maine Coon cat, which is a native, long hair cat. Since this breed adapted to Maine’s harsh, winter climate, it has large paws, a bushy tail, and a muscular body. The Maine Coon is a natural breed and hasn’t been bred to extremes. It is often compared to the Norwegian Forest Cat, which evolved in a similar type climate. But looking for similarities will not give you a definitive answer. The only way you can tell if your cat is a true Maine Coon is to look at the cat’s pedigree.…

Does a Black Cat Bring Bad Luck?

Does a Black Cat Bring Bad Luck?

I thought I would share my views on a black cat bringing bad luck. This cat has always been portrayed as a mysterious animal. Due to it’s reputation as a bad omen, the cat has a lesser chance of being adopted at an animal shelter.

The cat has black fur but is not of any particular breed of cat. The black fur can be found in a male or female. Some of these cats have white markings on their face and paws. It does not matter if it is a mixed breed or pure breed, the black fur will still prevail.

Since the 1880’s, the color black was associated with anarchism and this cat became a symbol of that political movement. The cat symbolized the idea of sabotage. The symbol was used to influence managers of companies when there were labor disagreements. Sometimes the employee(s) would put the cat in a manager’s office as a reminder of the dispute.

In the western world, a black cat is suppose to bring bad luck. If this cat crosses someone’s path, bad luck will follow. This belief started with the Pilgrims. The cat was associated with a witch. Any person seen with this cat might have been considered a witch and associated with the devil. If a witch was caught, both the witch and the cat would be burned at the stake. Every Halloween, you can still see images of witches and black cats.

There are many other tales of how this cat brought bad luck. When King Charles I’s cat died, he was accused of high treason. In ancient times, this cat in front of a fireplace symbolized an evil spirit and could see ghosts. If a farmer thought his land was cursed, he could shoot this cat with a silver bullet and remove the curse.

On the other hand, there are instances when a black cat was considered to bring good luck. The Egyptians worshiped this cat and banned it from being killed. Sailors believed this cat would bring them good luck. In the British Isles and France, owning a black cat brings good luck.

These cats have been portrayed in movies and literature for many years. Edgar Allen Poe wrote a short story titled The Black Cat. The Black Cat was a 1934 horror film starring Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff. The Aristocats, an animated Disney movie, featured Berlioz, a black male cat, as one of it’s main characters. The movie, Bell, Book and Candle starring Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak, featured witches with black cats. On the TV series, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, there was a black cat named Salem Saberhagen.

Who is to tell who is right? I have been lucky so far. When you see a black cat, remember it’s only a cat unless it is with a witch on a broomstick.…

Cat Aggression – Is There Too Much Biting and Scratching

Cat Aggression – Is There Too Much Biting and Scratching

Sometimes your cat is not the sweet little pet that cuddles. She seems at times to get moody and lapse into scratching or even biting. First of all, cats and kittens can be playful and some pouncing is normal. Crouching and staying in a fixed pose is often a sign that your cat is about to pounce. Try to not surprise your cat by doing something unexpected. This can cause a pouncing response. Also look at whether you play too aggressively with your pet and may be sending a mixed signal to her.

Many people notice that when being pet on the belly a cat will try to bite your hands. Also sometimes cats will try to bite their owner’s hand when they’ve been pet for too long a period of time and wish it to discontinue. Each cat has it’s own personality and preferences so it’s hard to make a specific rule to follow. However, you can observer certain signals such as the ears moving back and forth or tail moving in a twitching motion.

We often speak about how someone can come home from work after being yelled at by their boss and then

end up being blunt with their wife or kids. Well, cats too can react this way after having a bad experience with another cat or even human. If a cat has a fight with another cat outside, when it returns home it may still feel aggressive and turn it towards a family member. Keep your eyes open and watch your cat’s posture and demeanor.

Keep in mind that punishment is not advised by experts towards cats. They report that this can increase aggression because if cats are fearful they can react with biting and scratching due to defensiveness. Your vet or an animal specialist can help you with an ongoing problem of aggression. It is always important to be sure your cat is in sound medical condition as health problems can cause erratic behavior as can an improper diet.…

The Basics of Adopting a Kitten – Feeding, Vaccinating and More

The Basics of Adopting a Kitten – Feeding, Vaccinating and More

Adopting a kitten is exciting, but it comes with several responsibilities. Before you adopt one, you must understand the basics of feeding, medications, grooming, training, exercise and sleep.

Feeding:

There are several types of food you can try with your kitten; it may like some, but not others. It is beneficial to feed him food in a variety of flavors, smells and textures. Depending on its age, the amount it needs to be fed each day varies. For example, a kitten 2-3 months old should eat 4 times a day, but a kitten 6-12 months old typically only needs to eat twice a day. It is also important to provide them with plenty of water. If you suspect there may be something wrong with your cat’s eating habits, a veterinarian will assist you in caring for your kitten. You may also want to consider a.

Vaccinating:

You should vaccinate your kitten against certain diseases fairly early in their life. Most cats need to be vaccinated for rhinotracheitis (feline herpes), calici virus and panleukopenia (feline parvovirus). Depending on some other factors, there may be more vaccinations that your kitten needs and can be determined by a veterinarian. All cats should be prescribed with a heartworm medication-this is especially important for felines that live in heartworm areas. It is also important to provide your cat with a flea prevention treatment monthly; there are a number of treatments that can be purchased at the vet or over the counter that will assist you with that.

Grooming:

One aspect of life that most kittens absolutely do not enjoy is grooming. That is why it’s beneficial to start early and to make grooming fun. Be gentle while still removing hair to decrease hairball formation. Cats also need to have their teeth brushed every day; however, there are special feline toothpastes that should be used instead of human toothpaste. Check your cat’s ears at least once a week to ensure that there are no infections. Not all cats need regular bathing, but if it is something you feel is necessary, be sure to use an appropriate shampoo that is gentle and protects the kitten’s skin.

Training:

Training kittens is not difficult if you have patience and use the right tactics. Make sure you reinforce good behavior with praise and treats. Litter box training is the most common training procedure with cats, but it really isn’t that hard of a process. Try to buy a fine-grained, clumping litter, absent of perfume. Make sure you keep it sanitary by cleaning the box daily and washing it weekly. It may be helpful to provide your cat with a scratching post so it does not scratch your furniture or other important items.

Exercise:

Kittens need exercise, just like we do! This isn’t hard because they are very playful most of the time. Try to play with your feline for frequent, short periods so you don’t rid too much of his energy. Also, toys are helpful especially ones that can be chewed as they are beneficial for teething.

Sleep:

Sleep is the final factor your need to think about before buying a kitten. They are most likely going to sleep a lot because they are growing. For example, and 8-week old kitten may need 20 hours of sleep where as a 12-month old kitten may need 12-14 hours. Make sure to provide your kitten with a comfortable sleeping area that may include a bed, towels or anything else to keep them comfortable.

Again, adopting a kitten is fun but it comes with several responsibilities that must be considered. If you have questions, talk to a veterinarian and they will steer you the right way!…

Adopt a Kitten and Save a Life

Adopt a Kitten and Save a Life

If you are thinking of adding a pet as a member of your family and you want that pet to be a kitten. You should consider adopting a cat from your local animal shelter. Many animal shelters all over the country are overburdened with a constant influx of new stray cats and kittens that are being caught each and every day.

Life in an animal shelter is not a lot of fun. These kittens are cared for enough to keep them alive. They spend their days alone in a small cage with minimal exercise. The worst part about cats being left in animal shelters with no one to adopt them is that there just isn’t enough room for all of them. When a cat has been at the shelter for a prolonged period of time without being adopted they are put down. This is something that can’t be helped as there just isn’t enough room or supplies to house such a large number of animals.

Many times kittens are adopted from families who have cats that have become impregnated. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with taking a kitten from a neighbor or friends litter. On the other hand, these kittens usually have no trouble finding a home and even if the pet owner is unable to find a home for all of the kittens, they will care for them themselves. Kittens that are caught by animal control and live in a shelter are not as fortunate.

One of the best things you can do if you are looking to make a cat or kitten part of your family is to adopt them and essentially save their life. Many shelters will provide neutering or spaying and the cats vaccinations free of charge once you have chosen to adopt them. So make the right decision and save the live of a deserving cat or kitten.…

Treating a Kitten Urinary Tract Infection Quickly and Naturally

Treating a Kitten Urinary Tract Infection Quickly and Naturally

Kitten urinary tract infection can be a very troubling problem for the obvious reason that kittens are so small and their still developing systems are so fragile. Anything which disrupts the regular function of their system, then, can become a real threat if not properly addressed. This is particularly true of urinary conditions.

Because urinary tract infections can easily develop into life threatening blockages, it is important to get any kitten UT problem properly diagnosed as quickly as possible. If your kitten is exhibiting any of the common symptoms of UTI such as frequent urges to urinate, difficulty or pain while urinating or blood in the urine, you should get it to the vet immediately.

Once your vet has determined the presence of a kitten urinary tract infection, he can suggest the steps to take for treatment. Traditionally, that has involved the use of antibiotics to control the infection, however some pet owners shy away from this treatment as antibiotics can have serious side effects. Fortunately, there are other treatment options available including 100% natural remedies.

Formulated by trained homeopaths, natural remedies take treatment to the next level by not only treating symptoms but also promoting good overall urinary tract health in order to prevent recurrence. And because they are all natural, these products carry no side effects, making them the safe alternative for treating a kitten UT problem.

Using a combination of herbs such as Berberis vulgaris, Staphysagris and Cantharis, natural remedies work to strengthen the immune system and encourage proper urine flow. This not only eases the symptoms of kitten urinary tract infection but also addresses their underlying cause to help improve urinary tract health.

There are other steps you can take as a concerned pet owner to help prevent the occurrence of a kitten UT problem. Primary among them is providing your pet with a healthy, chemical free diet. Additives and other chemicals in commercial pet foods can weaken the immune system, leaving your pet open to bacterial infection.

Water is also vitally important to preventing kitten urinary tract infection as it helps to flush toxins out of the body. Make sure that your cat has continual access to a clean water supply and if necessary, add extra water or chicken broth to their food to help increase their fluid intake. Also make sure that they have access to a clean litter box at all times to encourage proper urination habits.

As a kitten, your pet is at its most vulnerable and this is when it needs you to step up and make sure it gets all the protection and care it needs. Don’t let urinary tract infection become an issue for your kitten, use nature’s gentle touch to help ease symptoms and get him on the right path to good health.…

How to Wean Bottle Fed Kittens

How to Wean Bottle Fed Kittens

If you have a baby kitten, who you have been bottle-feeding, you may need to wean it. Weaning is the process of introducing the kitten to solid food. If your kitten has been fed by it’s mother, then the mother cat will likely take care of the weaning process for you. However, if your cat was a rescue and has been bottle-fed, then you will need to learn the proper way to wean a bottle fed kitten.

This is a process that needs to be done gradually, over time, and with a lot of patience! Your kitten will not be able to simple eat and digest food on their first attempt. You should not begin weaning a kitten until they are at least four weeks old. At this point, their bodies have developed enough so that they can tolerate solid foods. If you try to do it before four months, then your kitten can get sick and may not ever wish to eat solid foods.

One really good way to tell if your kitten is ready to be weaned is to make sure that their eyes are open and they can navigate through your home by themselves if needed. If their eyes are open, then this means that they are far enough along in their development to start eating solid foods.

You will want to begin by shopping for or finding a small bowl- small enough so that the kitten can eat from it, and you will want to by kitten food. It does not matter if the food is wet or dry. On the first day, mix a very little bit of the kitten food with milk replacement. This should be very watery. If your food was dry, then you need to mash it up, making it almost like a pudding consistency. Bring the kitten near it and let her smell it. She will likely begin to lap at it. Let her eat until she is full. During the first couple weeks of weaning, you will need to supplement these little meals with the bottled milk you have already been feeding the kitten. Kittens need lots of food, don’t let her go hungry!

Keep with the process of mixing food in with replacement milk. Each day add a tiny bit more food, and a little less milk. You will want to do this over a period of about four weeks. After that time, your kitten should be fully weaned!…

How To Take Care Of A Dog

While owning a dog is a fun and amazing endeavor, it brings with it a great deal of responsibility. Thankfully, this article was written by other owners to ensure you can learn from their own follies in the past. The advice here will make you the best down owner you can be, so read on.

If your dog has fleas, and they fall off his coat onto your floor, vacuum them up. However, remember that fleas are pretty good escape artists, so you need to throw out the bag immediately after you are finished. To be on the safe side, tape the bag completely shut before you take it out to your trash can.

Not everyone is good at training dogs, so quit trying if you see things are not going as well as planned. Instead of beating yourself up about it, get in touch with a trainer in your area. Since they have more experience with dogs, it may be much easier for them to train yours.

Never give your dog milk! It’s not necessary for his body and he doesn’t have the proper enzymes to digest it anyway. Feeding your dog cow’s milk can lead to chronic diarrhea and leave him with an upset stomach, among other health problems. Stick with plain old water for a healthy and hydrated dog.

If your dog does something that you do not like, try to avoid just saying no. To your dog, no doesn’t really explain what you want your pup to do. Instead of saying no if your dog is jumping, try to get your dog to sit or lay down. By doing this, you provide your dog with an instruction of what to do.

Listen to your vet when he tells you how to administer medication or care. Dogs may resist wearing cones, but they are there for good reason. Vets are professionals who have experience dealing with your situation.

Respect your pet. When out on a walk, do not force your dog to interact with other people or animals if he does not want to. There is a reason why your dog may not want to get too close, and it is important that you listen to him. If you try and make him interact, your dog may begin to act out over time.

Keep your dog in comfortable housing. They should be able to rest off the floor and away from drafts. A training crate is a good choice or any covered shelter outside. Try placing a dog bed inside that has a warm blanket or a pillow inside. Wash the dog’s bedding frequently.

Getting a dog on a whim is rarely a good idea. You need to make sure you can afford to feed a dog and cover medical expenses before getting a pet. Research different breeds to figure out which dog would be best for your family, your lifestyle and the size of your home.

When taking your senior dog to the vet for an annual visit, make sure to request senior blood work. A blood panel can help your vet to identify any kidney, heart or vascular concerns. If caught early, treatment is often minimally invasive and less costly. This is a great way to keep your pet healthy for years to come.

A dog needs plenty of love and attention. You should try spending at least a couple of hours a day with your dog. Play in your backyard or take your dog to the nearest park. You should get plenty of exercises before coming home and petting your dog for a while.

If you have tried everything to get your dog to stop digging your garden to no avail, head to your kitchen. Mix up a batch of cayenne pepper (five tablespoons), hot sauce (also five tablespoons) and a quart of water in a spray bottle and spray it where he digs. It should discourage him quickly.

All of the expert advice contained above should have you ready to really take good care of your dog. That said, focus on love and everything else will fall into place. As long as you continue to adore your four-legged friend, and mistakes you make will be forgotten quickly and won’t be so harmful.…

Cats Will Be So Easy To Understand With These Tips

A lot of people get a cat because kittens are so adorable. Then, when they get the cat home, they’re not sure what to do. They are not always as expressive as dogs are, so cats can sometimes be puzzling. Here are a couple ways you can keep your cat happy.

Watch the amount of treats that you give your cat. Like humans, cats can easily overeat junk food. This can cause them to gain weight and may lead to some health problems like heart issues and diabetes. If you do give your cat treats, give them a small amount and make it a special thing instead of a regular routine.

Keep a clean litter box. Like you, a cat will generally not use a bathroom that is filthy. Find a quiet area out of the way that the box can stay in, and don’t move it unless absolutely necessary. Scoop solids out a couple time of day. Make sure to dump the whole box, wash it with a gentle detergent, and refill it once a week.

Realize that cats do not normally pant. Dogs pant to keep cool. If a cat pants, it’s a sign of trouble. Your cat could be very anxious or in pain. Likewise, rapid breathing is a sign of pain or anxiety. Be sure to contact your vet right away if your cat starts panting.

Don’t be pushy when you are getting to know your new cat. Cats prefer to be in control and take things at their own pace. Make sure your new cat is comfortable and safe. Let your cat take its time exploring its new environment. When your cat feels at home, it will be more likely to try to make friends with you.

Do not assume that because a medication is okay for you to take, that it is safe for your cat as well. Many medications made for humans are lethal to cats, such as acetaminophen containing drugs and aspirin. Always check with your veterinarian before you give your cat anything.

Keep the litter box clean. Cats are naturally very clean animals, and a dirty litter box will have your cat looking for alternative places to relieve himself. Cats also value their privacy, so try to locate the box in an area that does not get a lot of foot traffic.

Cats are frequently nocturnal in their habits. This refers to the fact that they are usually more active at night. Try closing the door if your cats are keeping you awake at night. This will keep them from attacking your toes.

If your cat is overweight, there are two things you need to do. First, you have to adjust the amount of food you give them, and the other is that you need to get them exercising. Get them cat toys, or play with them yourself, to make sure they are getting the activity they need to slim down.

Pet

Do not use medicine meant for a dog on a cat. This is especially important for topical medicines. Cats do their own cleaning, and if a dog medicine is used on a cat, your pet can ingest it. There are some medicines that work for both cats and dogs, but only use them if the vet says it is okay.

When you bring home a new cat for the first time, the experience can be overwhelming for both of you. Instead of granting access to your entire home, introduce your pet to its new environment one room at a time. For example, you might place your cat’s carrier in your study or den. As long as the carrier door is open, you should be in the room with the animal.

Pet Adoption

If you are looking for a new home for your kitty, consider registering with an online pet adoption agency. Some of these companies screen applicants, so you will be sure that your pet is going into a good home. This is better than selling him to a creep who lurks around Craigslist all the time.

After reading this article, you are probably going to be better at taking care of your cat. Try each tip out, to see what your cat responds best to. You can always find out more, so make sure you keep learning about cats so that yours always feels taken care of.…

Some Interesting Facts on Kitten Heels

Some Interesting Facts on Kitten Heels

Kitten heels are a shoe that has been a choice very popular among females for a long time. They got their name back in the fifties and sixties because more and more people of the younger generation or in their teens needed to look like their mothers. Shoe manufacturers identified this problem early on and started the manufacture the line of shorter and smaller heels that became Kitten Heels in the end. This shoe is similar to some types of high heels but literarily smaller. The heel may range between one and a half to two inches in height other than the three to four inches seen on high heels. These shoes therefore got their name because of the sector of people who used them: the younger generation.

This is a topic which you will find very interesting to talk about. Since not everyone has similar needs, there are many things to consider and a number of choices to make when the time comes to buy the most suited heels for each individual. Although the style is more than fifty years old, they still are the number one choice among many people who fancy wearing heels. It is possible for you to identify many different styles of these kitten heels, which could make your legs as well as your closet look great if you take some time off to go out to look for them.

When kitten heels were first seen in stores many girls wanted to wear them so that they also could look like their mothers. However, this became a part of fashion and is now enjoyed by many women because they actually consist of shorter, easy to put on heels and also makes the wearer look much sexier when worn. One of the main reasons for this type of shoe to make its presence firm in to the future is because, back in the fifties, Audrey Hepburn, a popular star chose to wear them, making them more popular like never seen before. The trend of wearing Kitten heels however, had faced a setback during the early sixties. But they slowly made a comeback and at the present, they are used by a number of women who want their heels to look sexier without height, which is a side effect of the typical high heel.

You will not get the sexy look offered by kitten heels in any other model of foot wear. You should therefore take maximum advantage of them if you come across a great looking pair of them. Although they have only been in existence for the last fifty years or so, they are surely a style that is timeless and is selected by many women who need a small boost to their looks without being too awkward. It is not a surprise to anyone that a trend comes and goes from time to time and because kitten heels are back style, it will be best for all of you ladies to start capitalizing on them for the latest trends in fashion.…

Sugar Glider Breeders

Choosing A Glider Breeder

Finding a reputable sugar glider breeder fairly close to you is not to difficult a task for most parts of the country. These are individuals who take on the responsibility of maintaining breeding sugar gliders and genuinely love the animals they are breeding. These animals are considered legal exotic pets in the U.S. and therefore have some unusual maintenance requirements. A responsible individual who oversees sugar gliders breeding will pass on their knowledge to prospective owners of gliders.

The USDA must license any sugar gliders breeding facility. If you are buying a glider from someone who owns more than three breeding animals, ask to see this USDA certification. Also, sugar gliders require an enormous amount of attention from their owners. A reputable breeder will ask you a lot of questions about the kind of home and environment you can provide for your pet. Be prepared by doing some research so you have some idea of how to answer.

These creatures do not do well as the only pet in a household. In the wild they live in small social groups and are usually only able to thrive if there is at least one other member of their species in the home. Responsible breeders will insist that you adopt them in pairs or, at the very least, prove that you are able to provide your pet with round the clock personal attention. Since this is such a sociable animal, beware of breeders that seem anxious to get rid of just one. Animals like this, that need to live with other animals, will not do well by themselves.

A good breeder will also be able to provide you with information about how to care for your glider(s). Additionally, they should be able to show you the parents; they should be healthy, well-adjusted and are a good indicator for healthy babies. Stay away from breeders that are trying to sell you gliders younger than 8 weeks old. Gliders do the best when they stay in their mother’s pouch for the first 8 weeks of their life.

Since sugar gliders are rising in popularity, there are decent breeders all over the country. Go online and search the more popular web sites for these animals. Many of these web site owners are happy to answer any and all emails about these pets. They are a great source of breeder information as well.

It’s always best to look for a local breeder. There are very few wild or domestic animals that can handle the stress of long distance shipping without getting sick and possibly dying. Asking local veterinarians in your area for referrals will also help in your search for the perfect glider pet. The price range for these animals is anywhere from $100-$600 depending on the location and reputation of the breeder. This is a lovely pet that is expensive and requires a fairly high amount of maintenance. Make sure the breeder you buy from is willing to continue communicating with you if you have any questions.…

The Must Know Cat Petting Strategy

All cats are obviously not the same similar to every other animal or human. Regardless, I can tell you that most cats will enjoy my petting method and petting strategies to the fullest. The most important thing to know before anything is your one on one bond with your cat or in a simpler form trust. If your cat doesn’t trust you or feels comfortable around you that would be your biggest problem. For the trustworthy relationships I have some crucial tips and tricks for you to follow the next time your cat needs attention.

Ironic as this sounds I grew up having no interest in cats let alone didn’t really even like them. As a child my personal experiences with cats were never good for me because I never could understand them and having such a passion for dogs at the time I didn’t realize how extravagant these creatures really were. As I started growing up around the age of 18 at Christmas time I had an unknown kitten living in my garage and my dad that didn’t accept this continually tried to drive it away but it didn’t ever seem to leave. Well after a week of trying to flee the kitten away it would just start hanging out by our backdoor of our house. As this became a daily thing for us my dad finally found it in his heart to let this poor little creature live at our place until we could find it a new home. Unfortunately, we kind of put it off because of our busy lives and we decided that this kitten is now our new pet. Long story short I feel like our new pet was blessed because of the pride this cat had and never gave up. He now is spoiled completely and is one of the most important things in my dad’s life.

With all this being said I started learning a lot about cats and their behavior. Which led me to creating my petting strategies. The two favorite spots a cat likes to be scratched is on their forehead and between the ears for instance my cat will approach me using his head to throw up my hand telling me what he wants. Also scratching under the chin and along the throat can be just as effective especially when you do it right after the forehead and ears. Keep in mind always pet a cat in the direction of its fur and be careful of the sensitive spot above the tail. Depending on the cat they may like to be petted there but some do not so find out if your does. Also, be aware of too much petting, your cat could nip at you letting you know it’s too much or too hard. If you happen to walk by your cat in the house I recommend to bend down and pet him or her, they seem to enjoy the acknowledgment and care you show. Never force your cat to do anything that the number one wrong thing to do, cats extremely dislike being pushed or forced. You have let your cat want to cuddle with you or any other task you are trying to achieve. The calmer you are the better off you are cats get spooked very easily and have keen senses so never be too aggressive. If you pick up your cat make sure to always use two hands and place your hands one under the chest and the other under his or her back legs. You will know when you have created this special bond with your cat by the end trust me.

Once you have acquired this relationship put the icing on the cake with cat products for your cat. Owning cat beds and cat toys can really jumpstart your cats sense of importance to you.

These may seem basic to some but you try these things and your bond will literally change before your eyes. You may even get a little irritated at your cat for demanding too much attention, it’s a good thing.…

How to Introduce a Kitten to Your Home

How to Introduce a Kitten to Your Home

Who can resist a delicate mewing kitten? Although a tiny kitten is adorable, keep in mind that your kitten’s habits and even her personality to some extent develop in the first few weeks with you.

Ideally a kitten should be at least 8 weeks old before you bring him home. A kitten between 8 and 12 weeks is a bit more settled, can eat solid food and not be as likely to keep you up by fearfully meowing through the night. Here are a few tips for a smooth transition:

1. Think Small, Cat-Friendly Room. A bathroom is a great place to start with a new kitten. She can easily sniff out her litter box in that small area, and she’ll feel safe in a smaller area in the beginning. Provide her with food and water as well as her litter box in this room. Later on, as he explores a larger area, you’ll want to help him find her way back to the litter box for the first few times.

2. Kitty Calisthenics. Cats are born to be active, and you’ll no doubt be entertained by their antics. A scratching post is a great diversion and provides a welcome alternative from your piano or dining room table. Cat toys (especially tiny stuffed mice) provide amusement for your kitten and anyone watching.

3. Allow Your Kitten to Be Aloof. All you want to do is to cuddle your new kitten, and he’s hiding under the bed. That’s okay. It’s not you – really! When she realizes that you’re the one who keeps showing up with the food, water and clean litter, she’ll eventually adore you. Be patient.

4. Stroke, Pet, Admire! The more time you spend loving on your kitten, the more loving your cat will be. If you have children, instruct them to be gentle. Quick jerky movements may result in injuries for kitten, kids or both.

5. Can You Train a Kitten? Yes, Virginia, it is possible. It’s not a fairy tale, but early is always better than later. When your kitten climbs the drapes or jumps on your kitchen counters, say “no” firmly and physically remove him. If he’s strong-willed, you have to be a bit more creative. Sticky tape on edges of kitchen counters may deter her.

6. To Crate or Not to Crate? A crate is a great way to create boundaries. You may choose to have your crated cat in a larger room to help her become accustomed to a large, noisy household. If your kitten is introduced to the crate early, she won’t be so frightened when she needs to travel to the vet’s.

7. Schedule a Veterinarian’s Visit Early. Contact your veterinarian hospital to schedule your kitten’s vaccinations. They’d love to meet the newest member of your family! Also, mark your calendar for when your kitten will be 6 months old – this is an ideal time for him to be spayed.…

How to Choose the Best Kitten Food

How to Choose the Best Kitten Food

When you first get a kitten, there is a ton of new stuff to learn and to do. Many people neglect the important choice of kitten food. The right kitten food can give you a strong, healthy cat. The wrong food can cause many health problems down the line, including diabetes.

First, you should be feeding your cat kitten food if he is younger than three years, and older than eight weeks. If he is younger than eight weeks, he will likely still be weaning off of formula or mother’s milk. Do not feed a young kitten adult cat food-it does not contain enough calories to support the rapidly growing kitten.

If your kitten is weaned, she has probably been eating kitten food at the breeders’ or shelter where you got her. If this is the case, make sure to ask them what they were feeding the kitten. If it is a high quality food, simply continue with that. If not, gradually switch from the low quality food to a high quality food.

The food that you give your kitten should be a canned food made with all meat if possible. Canned foods are often healthier and easier for a kitten to digest. For those who are worried about dental problems from wet food, feel free to give your kittens crunchy treats.

The reason why the food should be all meat is because cats are obligate carnivores. This means that their bodies are made to only eat and process meat. If they eat vegetables, fruits, or carbohydrates, their bodies cannot break these down efficiently and they can cause stomach issues or even diabetes. When shopping for kitten food, look at the ingredient list. The first ingredient should be meat. If it is corn, or gluten, or a vegetable, do not buy the kitten food.

Keep in mind that you need to feed a kitten much more often than an adult cat. An adult cat can get fed once or twice a day, while a kitten needs to be fed between three and six times and day. Unlike adult cats, who might eat too much if you leave food out, kittens will eat as much as they need to. Just be careful leaving wet food out for too long as bacteria can grow on it. If you follow these recommendations, you are likely to end up with a healthy and happy kitten.…

Natural Treatment Of Urinary Problems in Cats

A urinary problem in cats may cause much worrying not for an animal but also for an owner. The urinary tract has an extremely delicate nature, that is the reason why cats can often catch infections and other health problems. Consequently, it’s very significant for cat owners to take special care of their pet’s urinary health. It’s not difficult to keep your cat healthy, but it will certainly help to prolong your pet’s life.

One of the most common urinary problems in cats is bacterial infection. Cats can easily catch bacteria, particularly if they spend much time outdoors. Unfortunately, after bacteria has entered your pet’s system it can have a destructive effect on the cat’s urinary tract. As bacteria multiplies it can cause the appearance of crystals blocking the urinary tract and leading to serious, sometimes life threatening problems.

To avoid this kind of urinary issue in cats, it’s important to recognize the symptoms of UTI in time and to have the cat treated as soon as possible. The symptoms of UTI in cats are rather similar to those in human being, for instance, blood in the urine, fever, straining to urinate and pain when urinating. UTI can also make urine smelly or to make your cat urinate in different places, generally in small amounts.

If your cat has any of these symptoms, it’s recommended to get it to the veterinarian immediately for a correct diagnosis. For treatment of urinary issues in cats a course of antibiotics is prescribed as the first treatment option. But unfortunately antibiotics may have drawbacks and even side effects. Many antibiotics will certainly remove harmful bacteria but they’ll kill helpful bacteria as well. As a result, your cat is left open to recurring UTI and other health problems and even decreasing of the immune system.

Luckily, the owners worried with a urinary problem in cats, are offered a few options for treatment, like alternative and holistic medications. The latter are produced from 100% natural ingredients and can provide quick relief from symptoms without subjecting your pet to recurrence. These products will also improve the health of the cat’s immune system in the process of treatment.

Besides, while fighting urinary problems, it’s recommended to use definite herbs which are rather effective and include Staphysagris, Berberis vulgaris, and Cantharis. In combination, these herbs can relieve frequent urination and bladder pain and can improve the cat’s immune system and to help the proper functioning of the urinary system in cats.

Apart from using natural remedies, you can also follow some to relief urinary problem in your cat. Feed your cat with a natural diet enriched with Vitamin C and ensure that your cat always has clean water and a clean litter box in order to develop appropriate urinary habits.

Excellent urinary tract health is important for cats, so following the recommended steps to support proper function should be foremost in each cat owner’s thoughts. Always stay one step ahead of urinary tract problems and pay attention to all options for treatment, first of all, natural remedies.…

Tips About Cats That Anyone Can Use

A cat can be a great pet. After all, they don’t need to be walked, dislike baths and seem to take care of themselves. However, there are some things you need to do for them, even though they may not think so. Here are some kitty tips that you can follow to give your cat a great life.

If your cat suddenly goes off its feed for no apparent reason, try tempting treats such as jack mackerel, tuna, or cream of chicken soup in small amounts. These are not complete foods and shouldn’t be fed long term, but they are extremely tasty to cats. A finicky cat may start eating again and keep on when given one of these treats.

Before acquiring a cat, be sure that you have the wherewithal to take care of all necessary vet care. Cats reproduce at an alarming rate, and spaying or neutering is essential to keeping cat population under control. Check spay, neuter and vaccination costs and packages with local vets and clinics and be sure you can afford to give your cat proper medical care.

Cats love to play so make sure that you provide them with lots of toys. Cats enjoy batting around a fake mouse or little ball around the room. Some cats even develop a favorite toy. Playing with your cat is not only fun, it helps them to get exercise too.

If you have a male cat, it is important to have him neutered before he goes into heat. When male cats start maturing, they will begin to spray around the house. It smells like ammonia and is hard to remove. Having your male cat neutered can help to prevent this from happening.

Have your cat spayed or neutered. Pet overpopulation is a growing problem, with millions of homeless cats and kittens euthanized every year. Besides the problem of too many kittens and not enough homes, unfixed cats can have a multitude of behavior problems. Males who are not neutered at a young age often start spraying to mark their territory, and females who are allowed to come into heat yowl incessantly as they try to escape to find a mate. Kittens can begin to breed as early as 4 months of age, so get your new kitten spayed or neutered as soon as possible.

Feed your cats proper food. Remember that cats must eat meat. Only give your cats cat food to eat. Do not feed them or let them eat dog food. Dogs and cats have different nutritional needs and some of the ingredients in dog food could harm your cat. Feeding your cat dog food for food could also lead to malnourishment, among other issues.

Pet

Shop at your local pet shelter for your next cat. Shelters always have plenty of cats available and adoption fees are usually very affordable. Besides, adopting a cat from an animal shelter means you are saving this cat’s life.

Get a pet water fountain. Cats can be prone to dehydration, and running water entices them to drink. It is an evolutionary habit that developed because in the wild, running water is less likely to be contaminated than a stagnant pool. Your pet will enjoy the water more, and will drink more often.

Help keep your cat’s fur soft and healthy with regular cleaning. While your pet might object violently to a dunk in the bathtub, there are other options. Many pet stores sell feline cleaning wipes. These convenient disposable wipes reduce allergens and remove oils and dirt. Some are scented with chamomile, which helps to calm your cat. These are especially useful if you have an older or injured pet that cannot groom itself properly.

Pet Adoption

If you are looking for a new home for your kitty, consider registering with an online pet adoption agency. Some of these companies screen applicants, so you will be sure that your pet is going into a good home. This is better than selling him to a creep who lurks around Craigslist all the time.

Your cat may not think he needs you, but he does. If you use the tips in this article, you can make yourself even more necessary. These tips can help keep your cat healthy and happy, so give each of them a try. You can even search out more tips, so your cat has the best life possible.…

5 Reasons Ferrets Make Good Pets

5 Reasons Ferrets Make Good Pets

People nowadays have increasingly found the wonder with ferrets. This is perhaps the reason that they are already third in being the most domesticated animals in the United States, after cats and dogs. Ferrets are absolutely lovable creatures and here are five reasons that they make good pets at home.

1. With their long and fury bodies, enthusiastic and active personas, ferrets are absolutely cute in nature. They also become much more adorable given that they are instinctively curious animals, always wanting to explore their surroundings, even those that are humanly impossible to reach. When you own a ferret, you will always be entertained with their energetic and playful characteristics. Moreover, if you provide them with toys or treats once in a while, they will eagerly play and be happy. Having a pet ferret at home can definitely lighten up the mood and bring optimism around your house. Especially when you have children, they can always have a pet to play hide and seek with.

2. As you may have probably noticed with your pet ferret, it is incredibly intelligent. Apart from their heightened senses and intuition, ferrets are naturally intelligent at problem solving. Their levels can even be increased if you decide to train them and teach them more tricks. Ferrets can indeed be litter trained, which means that when you are successful at doing so, there will be far less accidents in your home. This may be the reason that ever since the old days, ferrets have been widely used as hunters in the field. Actually, they need minimal supervision from their masters in order to fulfill the task of catching rabbits.

3. In addition to these reasons, ferrets can keep a low maintenance living at home. All you have to do is provide them with basic needs such as shelter, food and toys and they are already set in your house. Unlike other pets such as dogs, ferrets are rather small which means that they do not need a huge cage. Furthermore, since they are small animals, it is much easier for you to bath and clean them. In terms of exercise, you do not have to walk them everyday; instead you can simply let them loose once in a while around your house and even at your backyard.

4. Due to their anatomical makeup, it is natural for ferrets to eat small meals. Since they only need the adequate nutritional requirements each day, they will only eat what they can. Thus, you may save yourself from the trouble of running short on their food supplies.

5. Lastly, ferrets are innately unafraid of humans, which make them absolutely capable of human interaction and play. Since they are sociable creatures, having more than one ferret at home will definitely create a much livelier atmosphere. Having a pet ferret is definitely a good idea if you want to brighten up your home and perhaps give your children their new best friend. Owning a pet ferret will not only bring joy into your house, but will also give you the opportunity to share your affection towards another creature. Since ferrets are much uncomplicated to keep, they can easily be a part of your family in no time.…

Tips For All The Crazy Cat Ladies Out There

Your cat probably seems like the most independent animal you’ve ever seen. They don’t seem to need your attention like a dog might, and they seem self-reliant in almost every way. That may be so, but your cat still needs some care from you. Here are some cat tips to help you give your cat the best care.

To keep your cat happy and healthy, its important to schedule regular visits to the vet. Not only are regular checkups good for catching problems early, but regular visits can insure that your cat keeps up to date on its vaccinations. If you don’t know when the last time your cat had its shots, schedule an appointment for booster shots as soon as possible.

Although depicted in countless movies and cartoons, milk is not the best source of nutrition for your cat. Once cats have grown, they do not need milk as a regular part of their diet. Milk can cause stomach distress and bloating. Instead of giving your cat milk, always have fresh, clean water available to them instead.

Save your furniture with scratching posts and pads. It is natural for cats to want to stretch their claws out and scratch. This does not mean that a cat owner must have damaged furniture. Provide your cat with places that it is okay to scratch and redirect them there if they decide to try out your sofa. Cat scratching posts come in many shapes and materials and some cats prefer a particular type so it may take some trial and error before you find the right combination for your kitty.

Cats are hunters by nature. They love to chase mice and other small animals and insects. Buying little fuzzy mice filled with catnip and batting them around with your cat is a great idea. Your cat will feel as though they are really hunting prey. This will also help you to connect with your cat better.

If your cat tends to be antisocial and anxious with company, try giving it a catnip toy a few hours before company arrives. Many cats become very mellow when exposed to catnip. Even if your cat does not want to socialize after catnip exposure, it will probably be happier and less anxious.

Pet

If you have an outdoor kitty, make sure to invest in a break away collar with an identification tag. Cats can travel a long way and this will help you get them back easier if they’re lost. At least put your phone number and pets name on the tag.

Use your cat to teach your children responsibilities. A pet demands care that the whole family can participate in. Each child can take different day to feed the cat, for instance. Same thing for litterbox care. You can make a schedule and post it on the refrigerator. Then, everyone knows what they are responsible for.

Natural Home Remedies For Cats With Ear Mites

Most cats get ear mites at one time or another. Cats with ear mites are miserable with symptoms of head shaking, itching and scratching the ears. Hundreds of these tiny bugs are invading your cat’s ear canal living off the wax. A mite’s life cycle is three weeks and then they start mating all over again. Ear mites are extremely contagious and spread from one cat to another through direct contact.

Ear mites are the most difficult parasite to get rid of, but by following a specific treatment, your cat will be ear mite free. If not treated, they can cause ear infections, inflamed red swollen ears or even hearing loss to your cat. Some cats have lost their hearing from vigorous head shaking causing a blood vessel to burst.

To check your cat for ear mites, use a cotton swab dipped in mineral or vegetable oil. Fold the ear flap back and wipe the cotton ball in the ear. If there is black debris or a thick coffee grind like substance on the cotton swab, then your cat has ear mites. Clean the kitty’s ears first with vegetable or mineral oil or you can buy a cleaning solution at PetSmart. Clean the ears as directed on the bottle. Always clean the cat’s ears first before treating her for ear mites.

There are a few different remedies for cats with ear mites. You can use the conventional method or the holistic approach. The easiest treatment is to visit your veterinarian and get a topical anti-parasitic medication such as Revolution.

It kills fleas as well as ear mites. It is a spot on vial tube that is applied between the shoulder blade and it lasts for one month. Acarexx or Milbermite are two other conventional topical medications you may choose to use. These conventional medications include “pyrethrins” which are an insecticide that penetrates the nervous system of the parasites.

The safest approach is the natural treatment with no chemicals. This is not the easiest way, but is the safest alternative to chemical products. Clean your cat’s ears with one tablespoon of Olive Oil and 1 capsule of Vitamin E combined. (Poke the capsule and pour the gel in with the olive oil)

Use an equal amount in a syringe and squirt in the cat’s ears and spread it out. Wait for five minutes, massage base of the ear with your thumb and forefinger and then wipe out the mite debris with a cotton swab. Repeat this process daily for seven days.

The Olive Oil smothers the mites and the Vitamin E heals the ears. Another treatment is by using white vinegar and water. Dilute solution to half and half. Use one teaspoon in a dropper or syringe in each ear. Cup your hand around the base of your kitty’s ear, and massage the base of her ear with your thumb and forefinger.

Use cotton swabs to wipe out the mite debris. Use this for seven days and then stop for seven days. WARNING: Do not use this method if the ears are red and swollen or have any open wounds.

Garlic and Olive Oil combined are great for treating ear mites. Crush garlic and soak it overnight in warm olive oil. Throw away the clove and warm up the olive oil. Add 5 drops to each ear for 21 days. This remedy also smothers the ear mites.

My favorite is Aloe and Calendula essential oils. They are very soothing to the kitty’s ears and have worked wonders for getting rid of the ear mites. Both oils are available at your local health food store. Add several drops to the kitty’s ears once daily for 21 days. The oils have a healing effect so if your kitty has inflamed or painful ears, this will help.

These are the best remedies for cats with ear mites and now you can choose the conventional or the holistic approach. Your cat will feel much better and she will love you for it.…

Veterinary Care and Vaccinations Are Important for Your Pet

There are many reasons why a person’s animal would need veterinary care. One of the most important reasons is for their pets’ routine vaccinations. This schedule is most imperative for young puppies. The first four months of a puppy’s life consists of a series of shots to protect them against parvo and other dangerous illnesses. The shots are administered about every six weeks apart. Many veterinarians will also request a fecal sample at some point during this four-shot process. When the puppies are first born they almost always have some form of worms that are passed down from their mother. The puppies are given a de-wormer and most of the time it is effective, and the worms are passed out. In some cases, the worms may be a bit more resistant and will need an additional parasite treatment to eliminate them.

After the four parvo and other early vaccine vaccinations are administered the veterinarian will set up an appointment for the rabies shot to be given. This shot is given to dogs and cats at around the six month point in their life. Sometimes factors may change the administration date of this shot. If the animal is sickly or underweight the veterinarian may want the animal to wait a little bit longer. Six months is also the typical time frame for an unaltered animal to become altered (spayed or neutered). Many veterinary care clinics will also require that a home pet receive the flu vaccination to prevent them from getting any illnesses while they are in boarding after their spay or neuter procedure.

If you are looking for any animal vaccination services littleton co or any city across the United States you should not have any problems locating a great care clinic. Many care clinics also volunteer their time and offer low cost vaccination events. These events are commonly found at large chain pet supply stores or livestock feed places. In some cases, dog “barkeries” (bakeries for dogs) also will house adoption and vaccination events. If you are unsure about a low-cost vaccination event you can simply call the store you buy your pets supplies from and inquire about clinics that may visit them. Many of these stores can recommend places that offer reduced fees.

If you cannot find a clinic that comes to your store and offers low cost vaccinations do not fret; there are other options. Animal shelters and animal control centers all across the United States are staffed with stellar veterinary staff that is able to provide care at reduced rates for dogs and cats. You can call your local animal shelter and inquire about walk in or appointment-based vaccinations and veterinary care services. You can also ask your neighbors and friends that have pets about their veterinary care clinic. Many pet owners are happy to supply you with their beloved veterinarian’s information. You can also search online for animal care centers near you or get out the trusty yellow pages. No matter what care clinic you choose you will be able to rest assured knowing your pets are up to date on their vaccinations and receiving their much-needed care.

Caring For Your Persian Cat’s Fur in Winter

Caring For Your Persian Cat’s Fur in Winter

Being a pet owner comes with a great deal of responsibility, and that takes on all new levels of car when the pet that you choose is one that requires a lot of attention. When it comes to felines, there may be no other breed that will require more of your time and pampering than the Persian cat. They are beautiful animals, but their fur needs constant attention if it is to maintain its everyday luxurious appearance.

Most cats hate being bathed, but given that caring for your Persian is a daily chore, it might be a good idea to try to get your Persian kitten used to being bathed every two to six weeks, which is generally all they will need as they get older. The care of the fur really gets important to increase the number of times you brush, come winter time when your Persian will start to shed profusely. This may mean several sessions of brushing per day, to help them effectively get rid of that excess fur, and to prevent the possibility of matting.

The best way to groom Persian kittens and cats is to use a wide, metal comb, as that is the most effective at keeping the fur separated, and free from loose, shedding hair. It’s especially important to make sure that you thoroughly comb behind the ears, as well as in the armpits, as this is where most cases of matting tends to begin. As you comb, you should closely inspect the coat for dirt, as the thickness of the fur can hide any signs of dirt that may have accumulated.

When it does become necessary to give your Persian cat a bath, you should do so in a room that is warm and dry. Fill the tub with a couple of inches of warm water, and then slowly lower your cat into the tub, petting him as you do so. It’s a good idea to keep them calm and relaxed during the process, which is why it’s important to start getting them used to bathing when they are kittens, usually starting when they are around 3 months old. Once they are comfortable, you should then use a small cup to pour the water over their fur, making sure to keep it away from the eyes and ears. Next up is the shampoo, being sure to use one that is appropriate for Persians, rinse him off, and then repeat, making sue to get the belly and paws cleaned when you do so.

Many people buy Persian cats in order to take them onto the show circuit, but even if you only want one as a loving home companion, you have to realize that this is a cat that requires a lot of grooming and maintenance in order to keep it beautiful appearance.…

Facts About Kitten Vaccinations

Facts About Kitten Vaccinations

Unless your kitten is properly vaccinated, it is at risk of contracting one or many, possibly fatal, infectious diseases, as follows:

• Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (FVR);

• Calicivirus;

• Panleukopenia;

• Chlamydia;

• Feline Leukemia (FeLV);

• Rabies;

• Feline Heartworm Disease

Most common of these diseases, which are highly infectious, can be prevented by routinely administering vaccination. We must vaccinate our kittens for the most important and common of these diseases in order to protect them. It is a fact that vaccines have an effective result in more than 95% of cases. In addition, routinely vaccinating your cat is cheaper than if you pay for treating your sick pet later. Also, vaccination reduces the possibility of virus transmission in the pet population.

Some facts that you have to know in order to be informed about this subject and to better estimate the cost of kitten vaccinations:

• Newborn kittens receive protection from the first mother’s milk (colostrums) if mother was vaccinated; ask the person who sell you the kitten if the cat was vaccinated;

• Kittens’ immune systems are immature so they are not capable of developing long-lasting immunity until at least 16 weeks from birth. Booster series for kittens must be given every 3-4 weeks, due to the developing nature of their immune system and due to the interference from mothers’ milk antibodies;

• cats should be vaccinated annually for most vaccines, after the initial booster series is administered to kittens, but some vaccines can be administered every 3 years; ask the vet about this;

• If a kitten has never received a vaccine before, and it is over 16 weeks old, it will need one additional dose in 3 to 4 weeks before starting on the annual or three-years schedule;

• Neither a kitten nor a cat should be vaccinated unless it is in an excellent state of health. If you have any doubts about the state of your cat’s health you’d better ask the veterinarian examine your pet and be assured of a good health status;

• Ask the vet is the vaccine contains what is called an “adjuvant”. Those with adjuvants are easier and cheaper to make. But there is some evidence that the inflammation appearing due to the adjuvant in the skin as it works, can (in rare cases) produce a type of malignant cancer;

• When comparing the prices of one clinic’s vaccines with others on the web you need to be sure that you are comparing like with like. When comparing, you need to know which diseases are being protected against and included in the vaccine course and if it contains and is dependent of an adjuvant;

• In some countries (e.g. the U.K.),which are currently free of Rabies, this vaccine is unnecessary.

Take a responsible approach in vaccinating your kitten because in this way you will protect it form further problems in life.…

What You Need To Know About Your Cat – Some Tips And Advice

Cats are fundamental different from humans. Aside from them being covered in fur and walking on all fours, they have different diet requirements. There are certain foods that a cat must eat, and some that a cat can’t eat. The following article can give you some dietary tips to aid you in feeding your cat.

Protecting your cat from household chemicals is something that you may already know, but did you know that protecting them from medications is just as important? Common over the counter medicines such as ibuprofen can be toxic to your cat, even in small doses. Keep your medication safely out of the reach of your cat.

Keep your cat healthy and non-finicky by introducing a varied diet. Always purchase several different brands of food and rotate them. In this way, your cat will be used to trying and accepting new tastes. If one food brand goes out of business, you will always have lots of other acceptable choices to offer.

Give your cats easier access to a window in order to keep your curtains from getting scratched. Putting vertical blinds up will allow the easiest access for your cat, but if you need to keep your curtains, use a lightweight rod that will fall if your cat attempts to climb the curtains. It will keep both your curtains and your cat safe.

Keep your cat indoors. Unlike dogs, it is nearly impossible to confine a cat to a yard. This can lead to many dangers for your cat, from cars, dogs, diseases from feral cats, and simply disappearing to parts unknown. Loose cats also be a nuisance to others, often killing songbirds and leaving unwelcome “deposits” in neighbor’s gardens. If your cat really enjoys the outdoors, they can be trained to wear a harness and leash or you can invest in a specialty cat fence or screened-in porch.

Make sure you have a good pet carrier or basket for transporting your cats from one location to the next. A proper carrier or basket should have enough room for them to turn around in comfortably. It should also be easy to clean. Make sure that it is lined with a blanket, cushion, or towel to help it stay comfortable and cozy for them when traveling.

Keep an eye on early warning signs of health issues in cats. Cats usually display warning signs if they are struggling with health issues. Some common signs to look out for include eating habit changes, sleeping habit changes, not being able to groom properly, changes in eating habits, changes in sleeping habits, depression, sneezing, increased thirst, watery eyes, changes in behavior, hiding, and vomiting. If they display these symptoms, take them to a vet right away. The sooner you take, them the better.

Treating Kidney Disease in Cats

Treating Kidney Disease in Cats

As a cat ages, it is more susceptible to kidney disease. Chronic renal failure (CRF) is more common in cats over 15 years old. Since the disease is life threatening, early detection can stabilize the condition and provide for a good quality of life.

If the animal is experiencing weight loss, excessive thirst and urination, loss of appetite, vomiting, difficulty in urinating or a dull coat, the disease could be a cause of the problem. Other diseases such as hyperthyroidism and diabetes causing similar symptoms can mask this condition. A veterinarian can determine if it is present. If left untreated, the kidneys will completely shut down leading to death.

Once CRF is diagnosed, there is no cure but life can be extended with proper treatment. It is diagnosed by a blood panel measuring levels of critical components. A low phosphorus diet can help prevent or retard it. The diet should also consist of low protein content, low sodium content and high potassium content. The diet should not restrict essential nutrients to maintain the animal’s health.

The low phosphorus content decreases kidney calcification called nephrocalcinosis. It is the deposit of calcium salts in the kidneys. When functioning nephrons drop below 25%, kidney failure occurs. Toxins build up in the blood and the kidneys are not able to filter the blood to eliminate the toxins. The kidneys besides eliminating waste in the blood, regulate the body’s acidity, electrolyte levels, water balance, hormone production and vitamin D.

CRF can be treated by adding additional fluids to food or under the skin (SQ fluids), diet, medications (Epogen shots or oral medication) and appetite stimulants. Appetite stimulants are important because a poor appetite is a result of the disease. Adding tuna juice or liquid from canned food can help the feeding process. In some cases, force feeding with a syringe may be the only alternative. For these options to work, dehydration must not be present. This is also beneficial to an older healthy cat because it could prevent the disease. Hemodialysis and kidney transplants are rare and expensive.

The condition can cause an emotional experience for an owner. The pet will have it’s good days and bad days. An owner must try to relax and not stress out. The pet will sense the owner’s stress and this can have an effect on it’s health. Like any serious condition, the life expectancy is unknown. Caring for and enjoying the cat is the best way to cope with the problem.

There are many foods on the market that are tailored to be used for CRF. Royal Canin and Wellness Core are two brands that offer a low phosphor food. Consult a veterinarian to determine what is best treatment.…
